Why Make Your Own Soap?

Making your own soap at home can be a very rewarding experience. It can also quickly become very addicting. But why make your own soap when it is so much easier to simply purchase it commercially in one of the pre-made soap forms from any grocery store?

There are a number of reasons to make your own, other than the sheer fun of it and the rewards you will receive when you make it yourself. Store bought soap often contains harsh ingredients, such as preservatives and other things like sodium laureth, sulfate or petroleum based ingredients. These of course are not the greatest things to put on your skin, but necessary for all that foam and lather most people like using in their soaps, to produce. Sensitive skin or those prone to allergies should not use harsh chemicals to wash their bodies with.

When making your own soap, you can add ingredients to make your soap lather well, without adding harsh chemicals in the process. When you make soap yourself, you know what is in it. You know that you have used pure, natural ingredients that can be nourishing to the skin.

Whether you are making soaps for yourself or your friends, or even for retail, today’s society wants to know that their soap is “green”. That does not mean that the soap color is green. That means they want to know that your soap is environmentally friendly. Most store bought soaps are anything but!
